Charlie is Faulkner's older brother. Charlie, Faulkner, Eddie and their Father all lived together in the Whisper Plains, in the Peninsula.

Personality[]
Charlie was a typical brother to Faulkner. According to Faulkner, he was "stubborn and crude and would rather walk off a cliff than listen to me".[2]
Background[]
While Charlie was young, all three brothers would skip school. They were able to do so due to the trust system their father had in place. As a result, they would explore the forests instead. Faulkner found the Trawler-man this way. On the third day of finding the water tank, Charlie found him. Charlie criticised him for running off, and Faulkner does not know whether this was because he was frightened, annoyed or excited to use his role as Faulkner's older brother.
Faulkner hears the voice of the Trawler-man, and tells Charlie about the music. Charlie submerges himself in the water and hears the music. He can't make out what the words say. As a result, he tells Faulkner to not let him up for air until he has understood it, when he gives the signal in the form of a thumbs up with his right hand. Faulkner does as directed. The signal never came. When the sun went down, Faulkner got off his brother's back and went home.[2]
When Faulkner sees his father again, he confesses to having been the reason Charlie died. His father tells him that he is not the sole person to blame for Charlie's death, that he was neglectful and wasn't there for them when they needed him.[3]
Connections[]
- Eddie is Charlie's older brother.[2] The intricacies of their relationship is unknown, but Charlie's death deeply affected Eddie. Eddie became far more fatherly towards Richard following Charlie's death.[4]
- Richard is Charlie's younger brother. They seem to have had a typical brotherly relationship. Faulkner is partially responsible for Charlie's death.[2]
- His father was neglectful, entrusting his three sons to look after themselves and take themselves to school.[2] His father also admits some responsibility for Charlie's death.[3]
